Dr. Matthews retired from Texas A&M University in 2013 as a professor emeritus after almost 25 years at TAMU as an anesthesia clinician, during which she published more than 60 articles on anesthesia and analgesia. She continues to "practice" anesthesia, teaches through locums, and consults with practitioners. A 1978 graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, she practiced at a mixed practice in upstate New York for five years, then completed a residency in anesthesia at Cornell in 1985 and taught at Washington State and Oklahoma State Universities before going to Texas A&M.
