Emilio DeBess graduated from the University of California at Davis, with DVM and MPVM degree, completed an internship in the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI, Canada, and a residency in public health at the California Department of Health, where he investigated outbreaks and worked with California-Mexico border health issues which included human brucellosis. He worked as an epidemiologist for Modesto, Calif., in a large outbreak of hepatitis A in humans. He was hired by the Oregon Health Authority as an epidemiologist leading disease investigation for the State of Oregon. His emphasis is in infectious and zoonotic diseases. Emilio is a member of CAPC and is very interested in parasitic diseases affecting the animal population and their zoonotic potential. Emilio’s 's work includes epidemiology, clinical practice and research and public health education at the veterinary technician programs. Clinical practice helps him stay current medical on information that impacts the veterinary profession including zoonotic diseases. Professionally, he is known in the community and provide continuing education on zoonotic diseases throughout the state of Oregon and Washington to educate veterinarian and maintain their knowledge base current. Emilio works with the local veterinary medical associations throughout the State of Oregon, veterinary technician groups and Portland Community College, Veterinary Technician Program. Emilio volunteers with PAWTEAM providing veterinary services to houseless people’s pets.
