Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Specialized Honours Zoology from the University of Guelph, (1994). She then went on to complete the Veterinary Technician Diploma at the Ridgetown College Campus, University of Guelph (1998). Finally, Andrea received her Master’s degree from the University of Guelph in Veterinary Clinical Studies, with a focus on nosocomial infections in the ICU, in 2012.
Andrea was an ICU technician at the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre for 20 years before moving into a supervisory role of ICU and Anesthesia departments in 2018. She achieved the Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care (VTS(ECC)) certification in 2003, becoming a member of the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians and Nurses (AVECCTN). From 2012-2014 Andrea served as President of AVECCTN, and currently serves as the AVECCTN Executive Secretary.
Andrea is co-editor and author of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care for Veterinary Technicians 3rd and 4th Editions (Battaglia and Steele) and Anesthesia and Analgesia for the Ill or Injured Dog or Cat (2018) Mathews, Sinclair, Steele and Grubb. Andrea has also been a chapter author for several other books including Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Manual (Mathews), The Textbook of Small Animal Emergency Medicine (Drobatz, Hopper, Silverstein), Veterinary Technician’s Manual for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (1st and 2nd Editions), and two upcoming books, McCurnin’s Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians (Beal) and Advanced Monitoring and Procedures for Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (Burkitt-Creedon and Davis).
Andrea has received several awards for her speaking and contributions to organizations including; 2013 the OAVT Outstanding Contributions Award, the 2014 Western Veterinary Conference Technician Educator of the Year, and the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Specialty Technician of the Year, for 2015.
