Sandy has traveled through the U.S. working with a variety of animals including monk seals in Hawaii, gorillas in Texas, marine mammals and birds in Alaska. She also shares a passion for such animals as rabbits, rodents, exotics, reptiles, large animals and of course dogs and cats.
1n 2008 Sandy started teaching at Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, CA, in the Veterinary Technology Program. She has been the advisor for the Student Chapter of NAVTA since 2011 and was awarded Advisor of the Year in 2012. Sandy was awarded California Veterinary Technician of the Year in 2014 and the Linda Markland Outstanding Veterinary Technician in 2021, nominated by the California Veterinary Medical Association.
Sandy is Vice President for the Academy of Physical Rehabilitation Veterinary Technicians, current committee member for SCNAVTA under NAVTA and the Liaison for the Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialties.
Certifications include Veterinary Technician Specialist in Physical Rehabilitation, recognized academy and accepted by NAVTA and the Canine Rehab Institute in canine rehabilitation.
She has an extensive background in human nutrition and sports medicine from her master’s degree with emphasis in exercise science.
She has served as Secretary for California RVT Association (CaRVTA) and NAVTA State Association Representative.
She is the founder and creator of the Small Animal Surgery Day. An event that invites local veterinarians, Foothill College alumni and students to help spay and neuter small animals from local rescue groups. Since that time there has been over 550 small animals altered and thus more adoptable and healthier. Because of this collaboration and enriching educational event, Sandy was honored with the CVMA outstanding Vet Tech of the Year.
Sandy is an active conference lecturer on animal physical rehabilitation and wellness topics. She is a contributing author to "Veterinary Technician and Nurse's Daily Reference Guide".
