In this course we will describe four common areas where veterinary practice culture and systems can lead to wellbeing concerns: Ambiguity, Stagnation, Sacrifice and Authority. Ambiguity with our values, goals and expectations can leave our employees confused about their own roles. Stagnation of wages, staffing levels and hours can lead not only to decreased wellbeing, but also loss in revenue and increased turn over. Sacrifice can lead to a lack of work life balance. Finally, the natural hierarchy of medicine can lead to a culture of authority. This culture leads to barriers in communication, and has been shown to lead to medical errors. Course participants will be taught how to recognize these issues in their own practice and address them if present.
