The value of the presence of family members (in human medicine) and owners (in veterinary medicine) during cardiopulmonary resuscitation is receiving attention, while continuing to cause debate. Family witnessed resuscitation can bring benefits and detriments from the perspective of the staff and patient family. The effect of the owner’s presence during CPR in the veterinary field is largely unknown. Insight from an open hospital with experience with family witnessed resuscitation in the veterinary setting will be shared.
