Scientific Services Veterinarian Doug Yanik Consulting Cary, NC, United States
Recently, many states have changed their regulation of cannabis and now allow medical and/or recreational use of phytocannabinoids in people. These state changes are at odds with the continuing Federal status of marijuana as a Schedule I drug and do not apply to veterinary patients. Although CBD is widely available, its regulatory status remains unclear, and the veterinary role in dispensing or even discussing non-approved CBD products is fraught and varies by state, as will be discussed.
