Bacterial and fungal skin infections are common in dogs with allergic dermatitis. Treatment of infections has become more challenging with the rising prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which supports the need for veterinarians to embrace diagnostic techniques such as skin cytology, and use rational therapeutic approaches. This presentation will discuss tips for diagnosing skin infections, including how to get the most out of your skin cytology, how to optimize the use of topical and systemic therapies and how to improve client and patient compliance to achieve successful outcomes.
