One of the most common problems in cats presented to veterinarians is decreased appetite. Since anorexia is a non-specific clinical sign that can be associated with a variety of underlying disorders, the clinician may find it challenging to diagnose and treat affected cats. Topics to be covered include: types and causes of anorexia, performing nutritional assessments, appropriate use of appetite stimulants and anti-emetics, advanced interventions such as assisted feed, and strategies to lessen or prevent anorexia in hospitalized cats.
Learning Objectives:
Understand why sick cats may have decreased appetite
Learn how to create a feeding plan for cats with poor appetite
Learn which drugs are best for cats with a poor appetite
