Therapeutics of exotic animal species, including birds, is a fast-growing field with numerous recent publications. This can be challenging for practitioners due to the ever-changing drug doses and treatment recommendations for the bird species that are commonly seen in private practice. This presentation will review recent therapeutic publications in parrots, raptors, and backyard poultry, and briefly review the US laws regarding drug use in egg-producing chickens.
Learning Objectives:
Review the key points and recommended drug dosages for recent therapeutic publications in parrots, raptors, and backyard chickens.
Discuss FARAD and the US laws regarding drug use in egg-producing chickens.
Compare and contrast the differences in commonly used drug dosages across avian taxa.
