Retired The Dalles Veterinary Hospital The Dalles, OR, United States
A critical and underdeveloped area in veterinary medicine is palliative and end-of-life care. Efforts have been made to develop guidelines and best practices to encourage better end-of-life care, but these often lack robust supporting scientific evidence. This session addresses the question, "How can we best balance the need for proactive palliative and hospice care with the importance of evidence-based medicine and avoiding ineffective treatments?"
Learning Objectives:
Understand the importance for patient welfare of positive, proactive palliative and end-of-life care
Understand the importance for patient welfare of evidence-based treatments
Evaluate current guidelines and standards in palliative and hospice care from an evidence-based medicine perspective
Develop a strategy for rational palliative and hospice care in an evidence-poor context
