A new section of the ASV Guidelines. Millions of people are impacted by disasters each year. Human-made disasters are a concern regardless of geography, and in many communities the risks from natural disasters are increasing. As a result, all shelters - regardless of location, facility type, and resources – should be ready if a disaster occurs. When it does, advanced planning is key to safeguard animal health and welfare through an effective, efficient response. This session will focus on crucial steps every sheltering organization can take to reduce the impact of potential disasters in advance, to effectively prepare for and respond to disasters when they occur, and to support people and animals in their communities during the recovery phase.
