bridge the knowledge gap regarding the early signs and symptoms of ATTR-CM and the use of diagnostic tools such as echocardiography and technetium-99 m pyrophosphate (Tc-99 m PYP) scintigraphy to diagnose ATTR-CM;
change health care provider (HCP) attitudes and awareness toward the identification of high-risk patients and their unique challenges, including underdiagnosis, inequalities in access to care and undertreatment due to age, gender, and race; and
connect with the ATTR-CM patient’s perspective given the rarity of the disease and the long journey to diagnosis.

This program was co-developed by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and Pfizer Canada and was planned to achieve scientific integrity, objectivity and balance.

Session Description: Through sharing of personal perspectives and experiences, this engaging TED-talk style symposium aims to inform cardiologists, hematologists, internists, oncologists, family physicians, residents, and allied professionals about the early signs and symptoms of ATTR-CM and the use of diagnostic tools such as echocardiography and technetium-99 m pyrophosphate scintigraphy to diagnose ATTR-CM. This symposium will include three patient cases aimed at increasing awareness of high-risk patients and their unique challenges, including underdiagnosis, inequalities in access to care, and undertreatment due to age, sex, or race. Finally, a recently diagnosed patient, who is also a clinician, will share his experience and thoughts on improving the patient diagnosis pathway, aiming to help health care providers better connect with the patient’s perspective given the rarity of ATTR-CM and the long journey to diagnosis.
