understand the importance of the pericardial immune system in the pathophysiology and management of pericarditis;
know how and when to use new drugs like interleukin blockers to treat pericarditis;
know how and when to manage pericardial disease surgically; and
learn how to diagnose and manage congenital pericardial conditions.
Session Description: This session is designed to update cardiovascular practitioners and scientists in the latest developments in pericardial disease. The speakers will deal with the basic science and role of the pericardial immune system in health and disease, with the surgical management of pericardial disease, with the use of new drugs that target cytokines like interleukin to manage recurrent pericarditis and with the diagnosis and significance of congenital abnormalities of the pericardium.
