Learning Objectives / Objectifs d'apprentissage:

At the end of this session participants will be able to / Au terme de cette conférence, vous serez:

describe the most common arrhythmia associated with chemotherapy;
recognize the need for device follow-up during radiation-therapy treatments; and
summarize the indications for anticoagulation in oncology patients in the context of arrhythmias.

Workshop Description: The workshop "Relevant cardio-oncology arrhythmia topics for the cardiologist" will include 3 case-based presentations and cover the following topics:
TOPIC 1) Common arrhythmias associated with chemotherapy
TOPIC 2) Device management during cancer therapy
TOPIC 3) Anticoagulation indications and risks in oncology patients

Generally, there is a limited appreciation of a rational approach to addressing cardio-oncology arrhythmia issues. This workshop will fulfill the learning needs of those seeking a practical approach to these difficult arrhythmia cases. Difficult arrhythmia cases like those addressed in this workshop are a frequent challenge to all involved in the clinical management of patients. This workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive and practical approach to common cardio-oncology arrhythmia issues. Workshop participants will also learn how to interpret the ECG tracings and how to select appropriate investigations in such cases.

The CHRS education committee planned this workshop. Members of this committee include community and academic cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiology residents and allied professionals from diverse practices and experience across Canada. The CHRS education committee is composed of representatives from each of the following regions: British Colombia, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces. The CHRS education committee has developed an objective and balanced representation of the topic of cardio-oncology arrhythmia issues that is completely free of third-party influence and/or support. A meeting was planned to assess the needs of clinical cardiologists, trainees and internists in the field of arrhythmia management. Selected speakers are representative of diversity in gender and generation as well as the perspective from across Canada.
