At the end of this session participants will be able to / Au terme de cette conférence, vous serez:

identify patients who may benefit from transcatheter mitral valve intervention;
describe currently available transcatheter options for patients who are poor surgical candidates and who have symptoms despite OMT;
recognize appropriate timing for referral to specialized centres for transcatheter mitral valve intervention; and
identify important aspects of the imaging assessment used in evaluation of patients being considered for transcatheter intervention.

Workshop Description: CHF is a clinical problem frequently seen in all of our clinical practices. CHF associated with significant mitral valve disease is treated first with medical therapy similar to other causes of CHF including GDMT and diuretics. Patients that remain symptomatic despite OMT remain a conundrum for clinical management particularly in those that are high or prohibitive surgical risk.

This workshop will start with short presentations outlining different aspects of management of this difficult patient population:
1. Review the basics of management of CHF in the context of significant mitral valve disease including an overview of the roles of medical therapy, surgical intervention and transcatheter intervention in both functional and degenerative MR.
2. Highlight different transcatheter options currently available in clinical practice in Canada for management of mitral valve disease.
3. Explore additional interventions currently being assessed in clinical trials in Canada for those who are symptomatic despite optimal medical therapy and who are not candidates for conventional surgical options or for approved transcatheter interventions.
4. Outline the imaging assessment of mitral valve disease in determining feasibility of and in selection between different transcatheter valve intervention.

This will be followed by a Q&A period (using ARS) and then 15 minutes of case-based interactive panel discussion and live audience polling (on ARS) selecting amongst transcatheter intervention options as part of a multidisciplinary team approach with collaboration between HF specialists, imaging specialists, interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons.
