Learning Objectives / Objectifs d'apprentissage:

At the end of this session participants will be able to / Au terme de cette conférence, vous serez:

choose the optimal antithrombotics, anti-hyperglycemics, anti-hypertensives, and lipid-lowering medications for patients with PAD;
recognize the signs and symptoms of PAD, and order the appropriate diagnostic or screening investigations;
treat the behavioural and metabolic risk factors for cardiovascular disease with pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions;
recognize, diagnose and manage common syndromes of non-atherogenic vascular disease;
understand the mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and how they apply to diagnosis and therapeutics for PAD; and
have a working knowledge of ankle-brachial measurement, vascular ultrasound, and wound care.

Workshop Description: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common disease associated with high morbidity and mortality. Despite this, there are major gaps in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with PAD, even among practitioners well versed in the treatment of cardiovascular risk factors or other cardiovascular diseases.

The CSVM spotlight will cover high yield topics in Vascular Medicine for the front-line practitioner. There will be a particular spotlight on the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic PAD, as well as the treatment of the lifestyle and metabolic risk factors in the PAD patient that contribute to disease. The newly released CCS PAD guidelines will be summarized and applied.

Besides atherosclerotic PAD, there will be high-yield summaries on common vascular medicine clinical scenarios. There will be interactive workshops on vascular ultrasound, ABI and wound care.
