Florent Besnier is a postdoctoral researcher at the Montreal Heart Institute Research Centre. Specializing in exercise, cardiovascular and metabolic physiology, Dr. Besnier has been involved in clinical research and cardiovascular and metabolic rehabilitation since 2009. His career began at the University Hospital of Rennes, France, with the development of a rehabilitation program during hemodialysis sessions for end-stage renal disease patients. He then worked between 2010 and 2014 at the Clinical Investigation Center of the University Hospital of La Réunion (France), where he focused on the prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes through physical activity. From 2014 to 2018, his PhD project at the Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (Toulouse, France) aimed to: 1/ study the effects of short bouts of high intensity exercise training on cardiorespiratory fitness and the autonomic nervous system in individuals with chronic heart failure, and 2/ to better understand the physiopathological mechanisms underlying the effects of exercise training on cardiac remodeling in rodents (cardiomyocyte morphology and cardiac tissue organization). After completing his PhD, Dr. Florent Besnier joined Dr. Louis Bherer's research team at the EPIC Center of the Montreal Heart Institute. His current projects aim to study the effects of physical and cognitive training on cardiovascular and cerebral health in the elderly and chronic heart failure patients. He also developed clinical research projects that aimed to improve the effectiveness of exercise rehabilitation programs for patients with coronary heart disease, and individuals who are experiencing long-term effects of COVID-19.
