Learning Objectives / Objectifs d'apprentissage:

Workshop Description: The workshop CHRS/CAIC "Are we ready to expand TAVI in all young, low-risk patients?" will cover the following topics:

1) to describe management of conductive defects post TAVI; 2) to define long-term TAVI durability and 3) to identify TAVI criteria beyond age

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a well-established therapeutic option for severe aortic stenosis. In addition, TAVI volume has recently surpassed surgical aortic valve replacement in some countries.

Initially, only patients at high surgical risk were considered for TAVI implantation but indications have expanded to younger patients. However, there are challenges associated with TAVI in younger patients, particularly questions about long-term valve durability and conductive disturbances.

Participants of the workshop will be informed of several existing limitations that need to be taken into consideration when discussing TAVI implantation in young patients with a greater life expectancy.

Participants will be provided with a 2023 update on the appropriate selection of young patients for TAVI implantation.
This workshop will fulfill the learning needs of professionals seeking a practical approach to those difficult decisions.
The CHRS and CAIC education committees planned this workshop. The CHRS and CAIC education committees are composed of representatives from each of the following regions: British Colombia, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces. The CHRS and CAIC education committee have developed an objective and balanced representation of the topic of "Are we ready to expand TAVI in all young, low-risk patients?" that is completely free of third-party influence and/or support. A meeting was planned to assess the needs of clinical cardiologists, trainees and internists in the field of arrhythmia and valve management. Selected speakers are representative of diversity in gender and generation as well as the perspective from across Canada.
