Learning Objectives / Objectifs d'apprentissage:

At the end of this session participants will be able to / Au terme de cette conférence, vous serez:

evaluate whether hydrocortisone should be routinely used in critically ill patients with pneumonia;
identify the strength and limitations of a trial examining whether early mobilization improves survival and ventilator free days in patients receiving mechanical ventilation;
critically appraise whether high protein feeds should be used in critically ill patients;
evaluate if double sequential defibrillation should be incorporated into clinical practice for refractory VF; and
incorporate the results of the ECMO-CS and ELCS shock trials into your care of patients with cardiogenic shock.

Workshop Description: In a fast-paced presentation workshop format, 5 trainees (or junior attendings in their first year of clinical practice) will be paired with 5 practicing intensivists to review the top 5 ICU trials published in the last year. Each trainee will present a brief 1.5-minute Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU) case that highlights the potential impact of the major ICU clinical trial on CICU practice. The senior cardiac intensivists will provide a brief overview of the trial and discuss the applicability of the trial to CICU patient care. Both the junior and senior faculty will participate in the audience question and answer period.
