Dr Christine Murphy is the nurse lead of The Ottawa Hospital Limb Preservation Centre and has been a nurse for over 30 years having completed a degree in Tissue Viability (UK), Master ofClinical Science in Wound Healing and PhD (Western University) investigating infection and healing challenges in a vascular population. Her research included an RCT examining ultrasound debridement in lower extremity vascular wounds.
External activities include previous President of Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, Continence Canada (NSWOCC), lead of the provincial limb preservation vascular wound framework development committee (Ontario Health), co-lead of the Diabetes Action Canada SPOR Network Foot Care to Prevent Lower Limb Amputation, member Wounds Canada National Strategy Committee, previous co- chair of the RNAO Best Practice Guideline for adults living with an ostomy, previous panel member for the RNAO Best Practice Guideline Diabetic Foot Ulcer.
Chris is a core faculty member and infection module leader of the Western University MClSc Wound Healing program and was recipient of the Registered Nurses Foundation of Ontario (RNFOO) Inaugural Nurse Innovator Award. Currently she is chair of the International Biofilm-Based Wound Care Panel which recently developed the International Wound Hygiene Consensus Document now published in 7 languages. She is a frequent speaker at international wound conferences and her area of clinical interest is pro-active wound care to expedite closure for complex, hard-to-heal vascular wounds.
