Angela McBrien is director of the Fetal and Neonatal Cardiology Program at the University of Alberta. Her early training took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland - medical school, training in pediatrics and initial work in Fetal and Pediatric Cardiology. During her time in Northern Ireland, she completed a research degree in Fetal Cardiology through the Queen's University of Belfast. She went on to do fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology in the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne in England, before moving to Edmonton for a clinical and research fellow position at the University of Alberta. She followed that with further Fetal Cardiology Training in Leeds, England before returning to the Freeman Hospital to lead their Fetal Cardiology Program. She returned to a Faculty position in the University of Alberta Division of Pediatric Cardiology in November 2016 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. She has a particular clinical and research interest in cardiac function, early fetal echocardiography and the genetic associations of congenital heart disease.
