Dr. Le Gal is a Professor in the Division of Hematology of the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, a physician and the Director of the Thrombosis Program, Division of Hematology at The Ottawa Hospital, and a Senior Scientist in the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Clinical Epidemiology Program. He is the co-director of CanVECTOR, the Canadian venous thromboembolism research network.
He was born and trained in France. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Brest in 1997 and a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Brest in 2007. He received fellowship training in Internal Medicine in Brest University Hospital, France, in Angiology in Geneva University Hospital, Switzerland, and in the Thrombosis Program at the University of Ottawa in 2008.
Dr. Le Gal’s primary research interest is the diagnosis and management of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including the clinical diagnosis of VTE, and the derivation and validation of clinical decision rules for VTE. He has over 450 peer-reviewed publications.
