Heavy Hauler
N/A
I’m Al Martin, Husband, and Father of two kids, heavy haul trucker and I live with type two diabetes, obesity and a myriad of co-morbidities. I’ve lived with obesity since my early teen years, most of my life in fact. At my fittest I’ve been considered obese. I was previously a business owner and gave that up to reduce stress in my life to give me a better shot at a healthy life. I've had all sorts of difficulties with the status quo set up of medical professionals in Canada (mostly within Ontario) and after a number of what I’ll call terrible experiences mixed with a few good ones (and I've met some absolutely amazing gems out here). I decided i needed to change the status quo and make it better. I joined forces with Obesity Canada and I’m expanding my voice to anyone who will listen to what is broken and what is good, and what may even be great.
My background first in commercial construction and then now as a heavy hauler has taught me that the greatest satisfaction comes from meeting a difficult challenge head on, and that success is always achieved with a team of people going in the same direction with a common goal.
Platitudes won't get us anywhere though, so while i may not be a traditional part of disease prevention and treatment, without patients like me the whole thing would collapse. You’ll find that I’m loud when I speak and inexorable when I'm working on anything.
