Dr. Janet Ngu is an attending cardiac surgeon at Health Science Centre in the beautiful St John's, Newfoundland & Labrador. Dr. Ngu is an Assistant Professor of Surgery affiliated with the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Ngu earned her M.D. and M.Sc. in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University of Calgary. She went on to pursue Cardiac Surgery Residency training at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. While fulfilling her residency clinical duties, she completed the Global Clinical Scholar Research Training program from Harvard Medical School. After completing her residency in 2019, Dr. Ngu received further fellowship training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago with a special focus in complex valve surgeries, heart failure, and mechanical circulatory support. She went on to complete a second fellowship in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Ngu has an aptitude for both translational and clinical research, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters to date. She has received multiple research awards both in Canada and internationally. She also had the honour of winning the prestigious Dr. Paul Cartier Cardiac Surgery Resident Award in 2018. Dr. Ngu has a keen interest in supporting the growth of minimally invasive cardiac surgery in Canada. She is also a strong advocate for women representation in cardiac surgery.
