Dr Carys Massarella is an Assisstant Clinical Professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine Department of Medicine at McMaster University. She is the lead physician for the Transgender Health Program at Quest Community Health Centre and an Attending Emergency Physician at St Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton. She has held the position of Chief of Emergency Medicine at St Joseph’s Healthcare and Program Director for the Royal College Program in Emergency Medicine at McMaster University. She was also President of the Medical Staff at St Joseph’s Healthcare and was recently President of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine. She speaks widely on Transgender healthcare. She was recently named by McLeans magazine as one of One of 50 Canadians who are breaking ground, leading the debate and shaping how we think and live. She has appeared in numerous documentaries and recently starred in the Amazon Prime/Out TV series my Trans Journey She has also done two TEDx talks on Transgender Related issues. She also has received numerous other awards including teacher of the year in Emergency Medicine at McMaster as well as receiving the Sister Joan Sullivan award, the highest award for a physician at St Joseph’s Healthcare awarded to the Physician who best represents the values of the Hospital In 2017 she also received the award from the YWCA Hamilton for the Women of Distinction for Healthcare. She is a CPSO council member
