Dr. Jonel Miklea is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. He received his training on three different continents. Jonel graduated from the Faculty of Medicine Carol Davila in Bucharest, Romania and completed his Family Medicine residency at McMaster University. He joined McMaster Family Practice as a practicing family physician, and the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University in 2001. He completed his Masters in Medical Education at Flinders University in Australia. During his time within the department, Jonel has been a committed mentor to medical students, family medicine residents, and international medical fraduates. From 2004 until 2011, he was the Program Director of the Family Medicine Undergraduate Program and has been a leader in the development of an integrated clerkship program at McMaster University. In 2003, Jonel was awarded the Gerry Cohen Teaching Award for his excellence as a clinical teacher and his commitment to residency education. In 2008, he was co-recipient of the College of Family Physicians of Canada Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article. Over the years he held different roles in the department from Education Site Coordinator to Faculty Development Local Lead. Jonel pioneered the Adolescent Health Clinic at the Youth and Wellness Center for family medicine residents to sample social accountability during their training. His coaching training allows him to facilitate national workshops on coaching peers and learners. He leads the coaching faculty development program for the health sciences and has been doing academic coaching for faculty across the disciplines. Jonel sits on the executive at the Clinical Faculty Association at Hamilton Health Sciences and also actively practices inpatient hospitalist medicine.
