Yasaman Aghazadeh received her Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine from McGill University in 2014, where she studied endocrine hormone regulation and manipulations using small molecules. Her first post-doctoral fellowship was conducted at Dr. Vassilios Papadopoulos laboratory and focused on the development of human testicular and adrenal tissues from mesenchymal stromal cells. With passion for stem cell biology and translational research, she then performed a 6-year postdoctoral fellowship at the McEwen Stem Cell Institute, University of Toronto from 2015-2021 with Dr. Cristina Nostro and Dr. Sara Nunes, where she is developing vascularization strategies for stem cell and donor-derived beta cells cell survival and function after transplantation. She then pursued a research associate position at the laboratory of Dr. Liliana Attisano at the University of Toronto from 2021-2023 to develop stem cell-derived vasculature on a chip model. Dr. Aghazadeh joined the faculty at Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM), University of Montreal in 2023 as an assistant professor, affiliated with the University of Montreal, Department of Medicine, and the director of regenerative medicine for the diabetes research unit. The Aghazadeh laboratory focuses on the study and modeling of beta cell niche with a particular focus on the vasculature, for use in cell therapies to treat type 1 diabetes.
