Dr. Iliana Lega is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, a Clincian Scientist at Women’s College Research Institute, and an Endocrinologist at Women’s College Hospital. In addition, she is an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Sciences . She completed Internal Medicine residency in 2007 and Endocrinology Fellowship in 2009 both at McGill University. She obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto in 2013.
Dr. Lega’s research program focuses on diabetes in complex populations with a strong interest in pharmacoepidemiology. Her earlier work focused on the relationship between diabetes and cancer, including the impact of diabetes and diabetes medications on cancer outcomes. More recently, Dr. Lega’s research focuses on diabetes management and potential overtreatment in older adults, with an emphasis on the adverse effects of intensive glycemic control and hypoglycemia in this population. Currently, her work explores interventions to improve diabetes deintensification among nursing home residents with diabetes. Dr. Lega has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications, and her work is funded by the Canadian Institue of Health Research.
