Peter Guerra is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Montreal. He completed his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at McGill University and subsequently became a fellow in the electrophysiology program at the Montreal Heart Institute. He then spent two years at the University of California in San Francisco where he specialized in atrial fibrillation ablation. Since returning to Montreal, his research interests have centered on novel techniques for atrial fibrillation ablation, including new imaging modalities and energy sources such as radiation and cryothermy. He has been highly involved in teaching of the residents and fellows, and was a member of the education committee of the Montreal Heart Institute and served as head of the electrophysiology training program at the Université de Montréal.
He was chief of cardiac electrophysiology at the Montreal Heart Institute from 2006 to 2014. In July 2014, he was named Chief of Medicine and Cardiology at the Montreal Heart Institute and holds the Philippa and Marvin Carsley Chair in Cardiology.
He is an active participant in both the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society. From October 2008 to 2010 he was president of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society, has served on the Board of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Academy from 2008 to 2012 and was Secretary of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society from 2015 to 2019.
