Dr. Thomas F. Lindsay is Professor of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Toronto. He graduated from McGill University (BSc, MDCM) and completed his General Surgery and Vascular Surgery training at the University of Toronto. During his surgical training he completed an MSc in the Surgical Scientist Program in Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury of Skeletal Muscle. Following a Medical Research Council of Canada Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he returned to the Division of Vascular Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) in 1992. Dr. Lindsay is a clinician scientist whose early research focus was on understanding the mechanisms of organ dysfunction following ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. More recently his interests surround complex endovascular interventions to treat aortic aneurysms in the aortic arch, the thoracoabdominal aorta including degenerative and dissection related aneurysms. Dr. Lindsay has spearheaded the Vascular Surgery Advanced Endovascular Aortic program to become a centre for advanced interventions to repair complex aneurysms with EVAR grafts. During his tenure as University Chair of Vascular Surgery he led a regional reorganization of Vascular Surgical Services at the University of Toronto, including the establishment of an alternate funding plan. He is a past President of the Peripheral Vascular Surgical Society and a past President of the Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery (CSVS). Through the CSVS, he has been a national advocate for the funding of endovascular aneurysm repair and abdominal aortic aneurysm screening.
