Dr. Brian Clarke completed medical school and postgraduate medical training in internal medicine and cardiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then completed fellowship training in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at Stanford University. After returning to Halifax for several years, he then accepted a position in Calgary in 2015 at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute where he came to lead the advanced heart failure and cardio-oncology programs. In 2021, Dr. Clarke moved to Vancouver, BC to join the UBC Division of Cardiology in the acute heart failure and cardiac transplant program. Dr. Clarke's clinical practice specialzes in cardio-oncology, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Clarke is involved in many areas of academic medicine. He led the development and served as Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's Area of Focused Competence program in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation, current president of the Canadian Cardiac Transplant Network, primary panel member of the heart failure and heart transplant guidelines, senior advisor on matters of national organ transplant, in addition to teaching at all levels of medical training. His research interests include heart failure outcomes, processes of care, MCS and sensitization in heart transplantation.
