Gurmeet Singh is an Associate Clinical Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Cardiac Surgery at the University of Alberta, Medical Director of the Adult ECMO Program, Quality Assurance Coordinator (Cardiac Surgery), and Attending Intensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
He received his MD from the University of Alberta, MSc (Experimental Surgery) at the Surgical Medical Research Institute (University of Alberta), and completed his FRCSC (Cardiac Surgery). He followed with a fellowship in Cardiac Transplantation/Heart Failure Surgery/Mechanical Circulatory Support at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Singh further trained in Critical Care Medicine and echocardiography at the University of Calgary.
A member of the CCS for many years, he is the chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Affiliate Senate (C-CAS). He was a co-founding member of the Canadian Cardiovascular Critical Care (CANCARE) Society, and is currently vice-president. Dr. Singh serves as a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada examination board member for Critical Care Medicine. His interests include critical care of cardiovascular patients, mechanical circulatory support, cardiothoracic transplantation, extracorporeal life support for respiratory failure, and education/simulation.
