Dr. Peter Senior is the Director of the Alberta Diabetes Institute, the Charles A Allard Chair in Diabetes Research and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta. He has clinical appointments as the Medical Director of the Clinical Islet Transplant Program and staff endocrinologist for Alberta Health Services, in Edmonton, Canada.
He co-leads the innovations in Type 1 DIabetes Group within Diabetes Action Canada which led the design, build and launch of www.connect1d.ca
EDUCATION
He completed his specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, in the UK, where he received his PhD in 2002
RESEARCH & RECOGNITION
His clinical and research interests focus on type 1 diabetes, hypoglycemia, diabetic kidney disease and islet transplantation. He has published almost 200 scientific articles and book chapters. He received the Gerald Wong Service Award from Diabetes Canada in 2020 for “diabetes research, clinical care, the organization and diabetes advocacy”.
VOLUNTEER ROLES
Currently he serves as Chair of Diabetes Canada’s Board of Directors. Previously he served as Chair of Diabetes Canada’s Clinical Practice Guidelines Steering Committee and its Professional Section.
