Learning Objectives / Objectifs d'apprentissage:

At the end of this session participants will be able to / Au terme de cette conférence, vous serez:

identify the less common yet highly morbid cardiogenic shock phenotypes;
understand the complex pathophysiological processes in patients with cardiogenic shock; and
apply novel concepts in the management of patients with cardiogenic shock.

Session Description: While significant advances in the diagnosis and management of heart failure have been made in the last several decades, there continues to be an under-recognition of patients that present with cardiogenic shock. Cardiogenic shock is caused by severe impairment of cardiac performance that results in reduced cardiac output and end-organ hypoperfusion. Despite contemporary management of patients, the mortality remains high. Though a majority of patients present with LV failure with hypotension and end-organ malperfusion, a subset of CS patients exist which are more difficult to identify and treat.
This symposium is designed for those who care with patients with suspected cardiogenic shock, who may present differently. We present these less common subset of CS phenotypes with a clinical case, followed by an multidisciplinary faculty who will highlight clinical pearls in early recognition and management strategies. from the initial presentation in the field, or the emergency department, to the intensivists in specialized heart failure units.
