Once differential diagnosis of dysarthria and motor speech disorders is established via a comprehensive speech evaluation, functional treatment planning can commence. This presentation will review general ideologic frameworks including Evidence-Based Practice, World Health Organization International Classification Functioning, Disability, & Health, and Motor Learning Principles. Specific treatment tasks will be reviewed within a sub-system framework including respiration, phonation, articulation, resonance, and prosody. Standardized approaches including Lee Silverman Voice Treatment and Speak Out will be considered, with recent research on the impact on slow, clear, or loud speech cues. Treatment through case study examples will be reviewed, including complex and unusual disorders and stories of constraints during COVID-19 pandemic.
