Ultrasound is a versatile imaging modality which plays a major role in maternal and fetal screening. Although a powerful tool for screening, ultrasound imaging presents numerous challenges due to rapidly changing technology, image optimization complexities, artifact misdiagnosis and the subtle imaging characteristics of many anomalies. This course will discuss methods for image optimization, review new tools for advanced imaging and present images of maternal adnexal abnormalities as well as first trimester fetal anomalies. The course will also reveal diagnostic clues to aid identification of placenta accreta spectrum and introduce opportunities to improve fetal neuroimaging.

Learning Objectives:

To identify the latest practice guidance from AIUM and SMFM pertaining to first and second trimester ultrasound examinations.
To create a systematic approach to identifying specific fetal anomalies to create a foundation for general screening protocols.
To describe technique(s) in acquiring advanced imaging to screen for common and less common abnormalities.
To cite the latest guidance from AIUM and the Fetal Heart Society regarding prenatal ultrasound screening for congenital heart disease.
To define technique(s) in acquiring images to screen for common and less common congenital heart defects.
To recognize the importance of additional imaging, genetic screening and diagnostic procedures beyond ultrasound that should be considered when congenital heart disease is suspected.
