Dr. Babbette LaMarca is Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She completed her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from UMMC in 2004. She serves as the Director of Clinical Research for the Center for Excellence in Perinatal Research supported by an NIH COBRE at UMMC. She has lead the thesis research for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship in OB/Gyn at UMMC since 2008. Her primary reseasrch focus is investigating inflammatory mechanisms responsible for causing the clinical characteristics of preeclampsia. She has published over 130 papers and has been continuously funded by NIH since 2005.
