Clinical Professor of Medicine
George Washington University School of Medicine
Bethesda, MD, United States
I am board certified in General Internal Medicine as well as being a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. I joined the faculty at George Washington University in 1998 and started and have been Director of the Weight Management Clinic since 2009. I have taught at the medical school since 1998, including lectures regarding obesity and weight management. I have overseen a multidisciplinary team, including 4 certified ABOM physicians, a psychiatrist, and a registered dietician who care for patients diagnosed with obesity. I developed a model for care of patients with obesity at GW and wrote guidelines. We teach interns and residents regarding care based on a program one of our faculty has developed. One of my main interests in the study of obesity is not only how obesity affects chronic disease, but also how obesity manifests itself as a disease state.
In addition, I have authored several articles on obesity and comorbid disease states, especially renal failure and sleep apnea.
I have spoken around the country at grand rounds regarding obesity and appeared on television and NPR.
