Emerging Big Data, Trends and Public Policies

As big data emerges and technology, smart cities, and truck platooning advance, the transportation world we know is changing. This panel discusses how public agencies, including departments of transportation and private agencies that provide planning assistance, are dealing with information overload; finding new, sustainable ways to pay for transportation; and adapting and modifying the transportation framework to reflect technological, non-motorized transportation, equity, and air-quality impacts. Panelists present public policies needed to respond to both new norms at the national and state levels and public reactions to the changing world of transportation planning, specifically regarding privacy concerns and anticipated trends in travel behaviors.
