Maria is a Venezuelan architect and urban designer based in Philadelphia. Her work is focused on public space design and placemaking, community engagement, and planning in culturally diverse communities.
As part of Interface Studio, Maria has worked with cities and nonprofit organizations in the US to develop strategic neighborhood plans, public space activation strategies, economic development strategies and comprehensive community engagement processes.
Prior to joining Interface Studio, Maria worked as an urban designer and researcher in Caracas, Bogota, San Jose (Costa Rica) and New York City. Her experience living and working in Latin America has allowed her to incorporate a culturally competent and people-centered approach to her professional practice. Notable projects she has been involved in include the Eastern North Strategic Neighborhood Plan in Philadelphia, the Central Area Master Plan in Kansas City, Kansas, and the Las Vegas Trail Neighborhood Plan in Fort Worth, Texas.
María holds a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Universidad Simón Bolívar, and master's degree in Urban Placemaking and Management from Pratt Institute.
