Elizabeth Gearin, PhD, AICP enjoys linking professional and academic planning disciplines and currently works as a Project Specialist - Urban Planning at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and serves as a commissioner on the Arlington County Planning Commission where she helped lead a citizen initiative for the County to join the Biophilic Cities Network. Prior to her current work, Elizabeth served as a planning and policy consultant and NSF-funded graduate researcher at the University of Southern California; Housing Coordinator for the City of Livermore, California; Community Development Planner for the Contra Costa County California Redevelopment Agency; and Community Organizer in Chicago, Illinois for the Southwest Parish and Neighborhood Federation. Elizabeth received a BA from the University of Michigan, an MCRP from Cal Poly, San Louis Obispo, and a PhD in Urban Planning and Development from the University of Southern California (USC). Elizabeth holds a graduate certificate in Sustainable Cities from the University of Southern California, and a professional certificate in Housing Development Finance from the National Development Council. She is certified as both a Master Naturalist and an Audubon at Home Ambassador by Virginia Cooperative Extension. Dr. Gearin lives with her family and pets in Arlington, Virginia.
