Val Herrera is currently a Climate Equity Specialist with the City of San Diego's Sustainability and Mobility Department. Val has achieved two degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso; a Master's in Public Administration and Bachelor's in Liberal Arts with a focus on public policy, community engagement and program evaluation. Val is from El Paso, Texas and worked for the Planning and Inspections Department on special events, special privilege licenses, and rewriting the mobile food vending ordinances. Val served as an intern, junior and senior planner with El Paso for 4 years until deciding to move up to Denver, Colorado to take a position with the City and County of Denver's Community Planning and Development Department in 2017. Scope of work included neighborhood planning, integration of equity, case managing rezoning processes and comprehensive sign plans, and played a major role in leading innovative efforts by creating the department's first racial equity action plan, community engagement plan, language access plan, and implementation plan. Positions with Denver included associate then senior city planner.
