Kortney attends Georgia Institute of Technology, obtaining her Masters of City and Regional Planning. Her research centers on people-centric economic development, adaptive reuse, and alternative housing solutions. After living in all kinds of different cities in both in the US and abroad, Kortney has cultivated a strong impression of the built environment’s impact on public health, social connection, equity, and quality of life. For this reason, she is passionate about new urbanism along with multi-modal transportation, food security, affordable housing, and the creative use of public space to build connectivity, sustainability, and quality of place.
Most recently, Kortney joined the Urban Land Institute's Hines Competition, and she is working on a Thesis surrounding the topics of land use, the missing small-scale commercial typologies, and retail gentrificaiton. She works for Code Studio as a planning intern and has worked in research for Georgia Power's economic and community development teams. Since joining Georgia Tech, Kortney has enjoyed creating maps, data visualizations, and urban design graphics through use of ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Suite, and even products such as Sketchup and ProCreate, and she is looking forward to a career in urban planning and design after graduation in May!
