Mr Michael Chang, FRTPI, HonMFPH. Planning and Health - PhD Candidate, University of Bristol, UK, and Honorary Fellow, Teesside University, UK.
Michael is a strategic leader on place, environment, spatial planning and public health. He has initiated and led programmes on spatial planning and health. He is a Chartered Fellow town planner, honorary member of the Faculty of Public Health and Fitwel Ambassador. His responsibilities includes writing guidance to support policy development and implementation on all aspects of spatial planning and health in the UK. This includes research collaborations and leading on guidance advising how to use the planning system to promote healthier food environments. He is undertaking a part time PhD to better understand urban development systems and where spatial planning intervention points exist to leverage public health and inequalities outcomes. He co-founded the Health and Wellbeing in Planning Network, sits on a number of advisory roles including as Trustee of the Quality of Life Foundation and Design Council Built Environment Expert, and a member of the Urban Land Institute Health Leaders Network 2021 cohort. He is lead author of 'Public Health Spatial Planning in Practice' published in October 2022.
