James F. Clarkin IV, AICP, LEED GA, ENV SP is a City Planner at the Department of Aviation in the City of Philadelphia. The Deparment of Aviation (DOA) is responsible for the infrastructure and operations at Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport. James Clarkin's specific role at the DOA is sustainability, long range planning, and environmental initiatives. DOA is currently in the process of completing a comprehensive, long-range Master Plan Update through 2040 to identify the major upgrades, facilities, and requirements PHL needs to handle future passenger levels in the year 2040. The Master Plan Update is focusing on terminals and landside facilities such as more gates, increased parking, and roadway improvements to handle future gate, parking, and traffic levels. In addition, to the Master Plan there are several sustainability initiatives including solar studies, grants to reduce emissions at PHL, and EV charging station installations.
