Matt Rader is the 37th President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. He believes that cultivating plants offers each person the super-power to transform the health of our society and environment. PHS gives you an opportunity to unlock that power by investing your time, money, and passion. Matt has focused PHS on using horticulture to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia Region by addressing four social determinants of health: social connections, livable environment, access to fresh food, and access to economic opportunity. In partnership with staff, hundreds of community partners, thousands of volunteers, and tens of thousands of members and supporters, PHS creates impact through on-the-ground services in 250 neighborhoods, 20 public gardens and landscapes, the 250,000-guest annual Philadelphia Flower Show, and classes, workshops, and an award-winning magazine for home gardeners.
Matt received his Bachelor’s in Architectural History from the University of Virginia, a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate in Non-Profit Executive Leadership from Bryn Mawr College. He is a 2020 Eisenhower Fellow. His professional experiences include the Fairmount Park Commission, Urban Land Institute, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and McKinsey and Company.
