Tarana Hafiz, Associate, Design Workshop
Tarana is a New York City native and Houston-based urban designer/planner with Design Workshop. Tarana brings over ten years of national and international experience creating equitable and resilient built environments. With projects ranging from streetscape and waterfront design to community development, form-based code and park planning, Tarana is passionate about developing sustainable communities, addressing problems faced within public spaces, and integrating outreach and advocacy to garner support for impactful design. She believes in collaborating with the client and stakeholders to deliver a thoughtful and multi-disciplinary solution to equity-driven issues while being able to communicate concepts through data visualization and storytelling.
She serves as the DEI Chair for American Planning Association’s Sustainable Communities Division and has been published on numerous platforms including Planning Magazine. Tarana graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s in Architecture and Environmental Design and earned her Master of Science in Urban Design from Columbia University.
