Ann Hutchinson, FAICP, Senior Director of Municipal Planning at Natural Lands. With planner Randall Arendt, Ann developed the state-wide Growing Greener: Conservation Design program, providing technical assistance in conservation design and regulations to 135 Pennsylvania municipalities. In the southeast and northeast regions of Pennsylvania, she works under a William Penn Foundation Delaware River Watershed Initiative to help municipalities adopt open space plans and land use codes that conserve water quality. Ann has lectured on conservation design and other zoning tools throughout Pennsylvania and as far away as Alaska. She is a contributing author, with Randall Arendt, to Growing Greener Ordinance Language (2001, Island Press).
Ann served as a founding Board member of the Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance and currently chairs the Delaware County Green Space Task Force. In 2015 she became a Fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program, whose mission is to support visionary, action-oriented, and diverse leadership for a just and sustainable future. Prior to joining Natural Lands, she was the Director of Planning and Community Development for Lower Merion Township, first-ring suburb of Philadelphia. Ann earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from SUNY Syracuse.
