As planners, advocates, researchers, and change makers, planners must tell compelling stories to clients, agencies, and communities in order to affect real change. The co-managing editors of APA’s 2022 State of Transportation Planning (SoTP) report explore what it looks like to radically rethink how we talk about transportation planning.
This presentation spotlights diverse voices – including the voices of those whose lived experiences and non-planning perspectives often go unheard or untold in formal planning practices. Without those voices at the table, an equitable, “radical” rethinking isn’t possible.
The editorial team facilitates interactive group exercises designed to apply the methods and strategies deployed in the SoTP report. Participants gain new tools to harness their inner expert storytellers and apply effective communication strategies at their jobs and in their communities. Think anew about how planners drive conversations concerning the intersections of equity, public health, technology, and transportation.
NPC Peer Reviewers assigned this presentation a learning level of Advanced. For more on learning-level descriptions, visit our General Information Page.
